Farm groups push for summertime E15 sales

USAgNet - 03/28/2024

A coalition of agricultural organisations is calling on the administration to permit summertime sales of E15, a move aimed at stabilizing the global energy market and alleviating pressure on consumers. The group emphasizes the potential of E15 to provide relief at the pump and reduce gasoline prices for American drivers.

The coalition highlights the effectiveness of past emergency waivers granted by the EPA to lower gas prices in 2022 and 2023, underscoring the need for similar action amid ongoing global energy disruptions. While the EPA has granted a permanent waiver for E15 sales in Midwestern states, set to take effect in 2025, the coalition stresses the immediate necessity of an emergency waiver to ensure consumer choice and savings.

Members of the coalition, including the American Farm Bureau Federation, Growth Energy, and the Renewable Fuels Association, emphasize the benefits of E15 for consumers, citing potential savings of up to 10 to 30 cents per gallon. They encourage farmers to support year-round E15 availability and advocate for increased awareness among policymakers.

The coalition's message resonates with the broader agricultural community, as E15 sales not only benefit consumers but also support American farmers by promoting the use of homegrown ethanol. Farmers are urged to engage with their congressional representatives to highlight the importance of E15 sales and advocate for continued support from the administration.
