Iowa Worker Dies in Grain Bin
USAgNet - 08/09/2017
Authorities confirmed that a worker caught in a grain bin in Waterloo, Iowa, has died.
The Waterloo Courier reports that crews were called to the East Central Iowa Co-Op elevator Monday for a worker who was trapped in soybeans.
The man's identity hasn't been released.
Firefighters cut several holes in the bin and co-op employees used a vacuum to drain the bin while rescue workers entered the structure in attempt to reach the man. Authorities said the man was later declared dead.
This was the second grain container death in northeast Iowa this year. In May, 74-year-old James Schweitzer died of suffocation after being engulfed in a grain wagon at Viafield in Winthrop.
